“Arsenal made an inquiry about his time at the club. Of course, we would make a cut from the transfer if he joins Arsenal. Bayern Munich also wants him but he’s on the way to the Premier League,” he said.

25% of any fee paid to Freiburg would go to Altinordu, where the defender made more than 30 appearances before signing for Freiburg for £2.4m in 2016. Altinordu had signed him on a free transfer from Aliaga Futbol in 2014.

Speaking to Turkish-Football.com about the Arsenal links, Söyüncü’s agent, Mustafa Dogru explained recently that Sven Mislintat is driving the deal, as a long term admirer of the player.

“Sven Mislintat has been keen on Caglar since he was at Borussia Dortmund,” Dogru said. “He first scouted him back in Germany. Sven is interested in Caglar, there are concrete talks, all that remains is for a fee to be agreed.

“We will see what happens next.”

Soyuncu made 26 appearances (25 starts) in the Bundesliga last season.

His impressive domestic form helped him nail down a place in the Turkey national team as well, and he’s started every single one of their games since 5th September 2017.
