Arsenal submitted another bid for Sporting CP winger Gelson Martins last week, according to reports in Portugal.

A Bola (via Sport Witness) claimed last week that Arsenal had made a bid of €30m for the 23-year-old, whose release clause is twice that at €60m. Sporting rejected the offer, and now A Bola report that Arsenal have made a second bid, of €30m.

The club seemingly know that Martins very much wants the move, and that Sporting aren’t really in any position to take a hard line on the issue.

Thanks to the recent training ground attack, some Sporting players have begun the process to terminate their contracts. Martins could do the same, although he’d prefer to leave through the normal route, if possible.

Nonetheless, the Sporting president rejected the new bid just like he did the old one. Arsenal will have to decide whether it’s worth upping the offer to something a bit more persuasive.

The 23-year-old had a strong campaign in Portugal, scoring 13 goals and assisting the same number in 52 matches. As a result, he’s now on the way to Russia with Portugal. Hopefully his performances don’t draw too much interest, because that could easily put Sporting back in the driving seat.
