Arsenal are set to meet the agent of Ever Banega in the next few days over a potential summer move, according to reports in Italy.

GazzaMercato write that Banega’s agent is travelling to London this week, as he has an appointment with Arsenal to discuss the future of his client. Unai Emery is reportedly leading the charge to bring one of his former players to the Emirates.

Meanwhile, Il Corriere del Calcio also report that Arsenal are interested in the midfielder. They claim Sevilla are willing to listen to any offers, and value the player at around €12m.

At that price, Banega would be a relatively low-cost replacement for Jack Wilshere, who looks more and more likely to leave the club this summer. The Argentine is a very strong passer, creating chances for his teammates well, as well as being a bit of a set-piece specialist, and scoring the odd goal.

He’s 29 years old now, so wouldn’t be a long-term solution in the middle. For the next couple of seasons he could be a useful addition to the squad though.

With 22-year-old Torreira potentially joining the club, 20-year-old Ainsley Maitland-Niles signing a new long-term contract, plus the midfield strength of the academy, Arsenal have enough young midfielders for the future anyway.
