Former Arsenal star, Kanu, was robbed at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport when approximately €9,300 was stolen from his suitcase.

Kanu was on his way to take part in a friendly match organised by FIFA. Arriving from London, he was transferring to a flight to Kaliningrad when the robbery took place.

Two baggage handlers, who were tasked with unloading luggage from the London flight, have been detained by Russian police.

“The stolen money has been confiscated and will shortly be returned to its owner,” police spokeswoman, Irina Volk said. Police also confirmed to TASS, the Russian news agency, that the luggage belonged to Kanu.

Kanu went on to feature in the ‘Relive the Legends’ match that took place on Sunday, June 3, where a team of FIFA legends faced up against a side composed of Russian veterans. The former Arsenal man’s team won, 6-4.

Back in March, another baggage handler at the same airport admitted stealing €56,000 from a package that belonged to a Moscow bank.
