Arsenal are considering another free transfer move, this time for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Bernard, according to reports in Italy.

Premium Sport journalist Andersinho Marques, who has a fairly reliable reputation for transfer news, claims the player is considering three options: Arsenal, Liverpool, and China.

Bernard spent five years in Ukraine, but has finally come to the end of his contract. Back in November, there were reports Shakhtar could look to sell the winger to Arsenal, instead of letting him leave on a free, as he was reluctant to sign a new contract with them.

Nothing came of the rumours at the time, and instead he’s now available for nothing.

Many of you probably remember links between Arsenal and Bernard in the past. During the last World Cup in 2014, he seemed close to a move, but the club ended up just sticking with the one signing of Alexis Sanchez.

The winger is still just 25 though. With 10 goals and four assists in 29 appearances last season, he could be a useful addition.

Arsenal have already shown they’re willing to snap up out-of-contract players, with Stephan Lichtsteiner close to joining. Bernard could fill another problem area of the pitch, as a tricky wide player, without eating into the budget. We’ll see if the Arsenal transfer team decide he’s worth a punt.
