Arsenal and Liverpool have offers on the table for 29-year-old Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, who could be allowed to leave for less than his €60m release clause.

That’s according to Spanish journalist Alfredo Martinez, who claims that both clubs are making a move for the former Ajax man. He says the shot-stopper would be allowed to leave for around €45m (£39.5m). It’s not clear at this stage how close either offer is to that valuation.

Cillessen recently spoke to the media about the situation, and explained that he’s just patiently waiting for Barcelona’s decision on the matter. He admitted he’d have no problem moving to Arsenal or Liverpool, but would also happily stay at his current club if they don’t want to sell.

Either way, he explained that we won’t get any decision until he returns to the club on 16th July.

The goalkeeper only made 11 appearances this season, but played well when given the opportunity. That was emphasised by the fact he kept eight clean sheets, only conceding three times all year.

Of course, much of that is down to Barcelona’s solid defensive record. They had the second fewest goals conceded in La Liga last year, after Atletico Madrid.

However, that doesn’t take away from how well Cillessen has played without much reward. Now hopefully he can get a move somewhere he can be a regular starter.
