Arsene Wenger has told Bein Sports that ‘impatience’ was a problem at Arsenal and that ‘nothing was good enough.’

While Arsene Wenger has often been praised for his honest assessment of many situations, when it comes to his final few years at the club he has a very clear blackspot that can make him sound rather foolish.

Despite spending the season blaming bad luck and unexpected mistakes for Arsenal’s awful away record, he has given a candid interview with the French outlet that is both true and nonsense.

“We sat down and concluded that it would be better for someone with credit and patience to come in,” Wenger told Bein Sports. “There is a great atmosphere in the team, it was a pleasure to work with them, there is great potential in the team.

“You always felt that there was impatience, no more forgiveness. When you are in a place there is always impatience. We were used to great success, but nothing was good enough. Even this time, we played the League Cup final, the semi-finals of the Europa League and we do not deserve to be eliminated. Even if I had won the Europa League, I could feel that impatience was definitive,” he added.

It is something of a low blow to hit out at Arsenal fans for a lack of patience given the majority supported the club, management and team during a decade of austerity while we paid for the stadium move.

While there were pockets of supporters who spent that decade whinging, most threw their support behind them and only began to turn after years of watching the team repeat the same mistakes season after season with no sign that Wenger was going to be able to make the required changes.
