Villarreal have reportedly made a ‘tentative approach’ to Santi Cazorla, hopeful that they can lure him back to Spain providing he is able to regain full fitness.

The midfielder is out of contract in the summer and Arsenal have yet to offer him a new deal as they wait to see if he is able to actually play again.

With Arsene Wenger leaving and a new manager not yet appointed, any contract renewals will most likely have to be delayed regardless of other circumstances.

Cazorla, for his part, is focusing on getting fit but it’s hard to see him turning down a new deal at Arsenal should one come his way.

He will no doubt feel some sort of loyalty towards the club that has stood by him over the past 18 months unlike others who have graced Arsenal’s treatment room for long periods of time before buggering off as soon as they got fit.

At his press conference ahead of Arsenal’s penultimate fixture, Arsene Wenger confirmed that the Spaniard will not be fit in time to play any part in Arsenal’s last fixture of the season on Sunday. He also said that Laurent Koscielny will not return before ‘December at best’.
