Arsenal have emerged as surprise contenders for the signature of Oxford United’s Marvin Johnson.

  • Johnson has 36 League One appearances, scoring 3 and assisting 5
  • Player is also interesting both Manchester clubs
  • His previous clubs include Romulus, Kidderminster, and Motherwell

According to the Sunday Mirror, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United are all targeting Marvin Johnson, a player who was originally linked with West Brom, Wolves, Aston Villa, and Birmingham City, but has seen his stock rocket.

There seems to be very little information around detailing just what sort of form this ‘interest’ is taking, nor how serious it is but it’s certainly not a rumour likely to engage many fans of any of the top sides linked with him

Of course, late bloomers are becoming something of a favoured trend, but still…

Johnson has the potential to move his game up a level, according to his former Romulus boss Richard Evans.

Evans said: “He came to Romulus as a kid and became a man to be honest.

“He got good coaching from myself and (ex-Blues defender) Dave Barnett and I think that did him the world of good.

“We gave him his chance to be fair, and put him in the first team.

“He just progressed from that point and is continuing to do so.

“He is a good player, he has got it all really. He has the ability to go past people, he is very direct and he has got pace.”
