Nabil Fekir and his father, Mohamed, have flatly denied reports that he has agreed a transfer to Liverpool this summer.

Speaking to the media after the recent rumours about the Lyon man’s future, Mohamed Fekir didn’t even entertain the possibility that his son could be on the move to Jurgen Klopp’s club.

“Nabil in Liverpool, that’s wrong,” he said. “I hear there are arrangements, stuff like that… I was surprised. I can deny this information right now. It’s not true. Otherwise Nabil would have told me right away, we are very close.”

Fekir gave a similar answer, also telling reporters there isn’t anything to announce. However, he did leave open the possibility of a move somewhere or other this summer.

“I read that I was already sent everywhere (smile). But as I said, I’m in Lyon, there are two games left and then we’ll see,” the 24-year-old explained. “Anyway, I can guarantee you, for now, there is nothing. The president trusts me and I am very good at Lyon.”

In March, reports suggested Arsenal wanted to sign the player this summer, before the World Cup starts. They’re apparently willing to pay €50m to make a move happen. The fact that this Liverpool story seems like a fabrication can only help their chances.

Fekir is certainly a massive talent, and we know he has some interest in Arsenal. In December, he named the club among a list of six teams he’d like to go to. That wasn’t the first time the two have been linked either.

In 2015, his father told reporters: “If [Fekir] leaves, it will be for Arsenal. It’s the only club that can enable him to progress, with Arsene Wenger.”

We’ll have to wait and see if the new manager decides to move for the player, before it’s too late.
