The Riyad Mahrez to Arsenal story is back in full flow now, with reports in Spain claiming he has decided to turn down all other clubs in favour of joining the North London side.

As usual, a new transfer window means a new barrage of Mahrez stories. Last week we reported on the story that the player withdrew his transfer request after the January window closed, but apparently still wants a move once the season is over.

Now, Don Balon claim Mahrez is ‘very clear’ he wants to join Arsenal. They say he would be turning down Real Madrid and Manchester City to do so.

At least it makes a change from the Spanish publication’s consistent stream of ‘Benzema wants to join Arsenal’ stories.

Perhaps the increase in rumours this week has something to do with the match on Wednesday night between Arsenal and Leicester. That’s usually how these things work. We got a whole load of papers reporting on the potential transfer just before the opening day of the season in August.

On the other hand, the Algeria international is justifying the speculation around his future this season. He is in double figures for goals and assists (11 each), including goal contributions against Arsenal, Spurs, Manchester United and Liverpool. Hopefully he won’t add to that this evening.

Plus, he’s the kind of player Arsenal need. A winger with the ability to take opponents on, who can threaten on the counter attack.

We’ll see if there’s any truth to the rumours this time.
