Viktoria Schnaderbeck has said she opted to leave Bayern Munich for Arsenal to get out of her comfort zone as Joe Montemurro’s side look to build on his impressive first season with the club.

The 27-year-old Bayern Munich captain was announced this week with at least another two signings from Germany expected to follow.

Speaking to Kleine Zeitung, Schnaderbeck said, “I wanted to get out of my comfort zone once again and therefore sought a new challenge.

“It’s nice to have a piece of home in a cosmopolitan city like London.”

Schnaderbeck’s cousin, Sebastian Prodl, plays for Watford and Schnaderbeck added, “Incidentally, Arsenal’s training centre is just a stone’s throw away from Watford.

“I see over the fence when Sebastian trains.

“As children, we played soccer together in Kirchberg, now, more than 20 years later, we’re kicking together again.”

Schnaderbeck also revealed that her transfer to Arsenal is causing some problems for her father, who is afraid of flying. “My father is very reluctant to fly. He always drove to Munich. Now he has to fly. But he will get used to it.”

As well as arriving at Arsenal as the former captain of Bayern Munich, Schnaderbeck is also her country’s captain, with over 50 caps for Austria.
