Mundo Deportivo report that Luis Enrique is not demanding £20m-a-year to manage at Chelsea or Arsenal despite media claims to the contrary.

When Enrique was first linked with the job at Chelsea, long before Arsene Wenger had announced his intention to step down at the end of the season, his wage demands were reportedly an issue.

For a long time it was claimed that the former Barcelona manager wanted £15m-a-season to manage in the Premier League – a significant jump from the £7m he earned while in charge of Barca and a salary that would put him on a par with Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho.

This ‘demand’ then rose to £20m in some papers recently although there was no indication of why that might be the case, nor why Enrique might think he deserves to be the highest paid manager in world football despite taking a year out of the game.

Mundo Deportivo, however, claim that the Spaniard has not even had any negotiations with Arsenal let alone asked them (or Chelsea) for £20m-a-year, an unrealistic amount for anyone to expect at a club outside of Manchester or China.

The highest paid manager in football at present is Marcello Lippi who earns £18m-a-year with the Chinese National team.
