The 24-year-old came through the Sevilla youth ranks and according to a report from Spain, he is expected to leave the club this summer with Arsenal at the head of the pack chasing his signature.

They write, “..his age and his physical and technical virtues make him a very attractive goalkeeper followed on the continent … especially by the Arsenal of Emery.”

Despite handing Petr Cech the number one shirt, most Arsenal fans are hoping that the club will actually buy a new number one rather than continuing to rely on an ageing Czech and a calamitous David Ospina

Sevilla are said to be preparing for the departure of Rico, who is under contract until 2021.

They have already identified three possible replacements in Fernando Pacheco, Yassine Bonou and Roberto Jiminez.

Rico played 40 times for the La Liga side last season, keeping 13 cleansheets and conceding 59 goals. He is referred to in the Spanish report as ‘the headliner for much of the season’.

He is currently valued at £18m.
