Unai Emery is planning to hold talks with Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey next week, to sort out their futures with the club, or elsewhere.

The S*n write that Emery wants to speak to both players personally, to convince them to commit their futures to Arsenal. Various reports suggest he wants to tie Ramsey down long-term, and build the team around him. It seems he’s now also hoping to hold onto Wilshere too.

I wouldn’t trust The S*n to have inside information on Emery’s plans, but you can see why imminent talks make sense.

Ramsey’s contract expires in 2019, so there’s no particular rush to get a deal done. However, if he decides not to extend, Arsenal might want to cash in this summer. They can only do so by sorting out his future as early on as possible.

Wilshere’s situation is even more urgent. It’s now less than a month until his contract with Arsenal expires, and he can already speak to any club he wants about a free transfer when that happens. We’re getting to the now-or-never stage for his career in North London.

Hopefully we should get some closure on both players in the next week or so.
