Unai Emery was unveiled as the new Arsenal head coach on Wednesday afternoon and he left a strong and positive impression.

So what did we learn?

His English is much better than we’d been led to believe

Despite probably not being able to order a pint in Spanish, a number of media people told us that Emery’s English was awful.

It wasn’t.

Sure, he’s no Arsene Wenger-type linguist, but it wasn’t hard to understand what he was saying at any point and he was able to get his ideas across well.

He’s a sweet-talker

He told Arsenal fans he wants pressing and passion and generally indicated he would deliver everything that has been desperately missing at Arsenal for a number of years now.

He will have to endure the same mundane questions as Wenger

Approximately three questions into his life as the new Arsenal head coach, Emery was asked about Jack Wilsere’s contract.

Given he hadn’t even met the players by that point, it’s hard to know what the journalist in question expected him to say.

David Ornstein’s fame has gone to his head

Ornstein is hailed as the definitive Arsenal reporter.

When he writes, Arsenal fans pay attention.

As such, it seems like his fame might have gone to his head as he asked a series of disrespectful questions.

His first started “You’ve obviously not won anything in England…” While it might not have been meant in a disrespectful way, and was merely Ornstein stating a fact, his delivery was well wide of the mark and didn’t improve.

The media knew very little about what Arsenal were doing

Nobody turned Arsenal down

Gazidis says of all the managers they spoke to, none rejected them. 7

This is, however, a little disingenuous as not all eight would have been offered the job for them to reject.

That being said, all eight seem to have expressed an interest in the role.

Ivan Gazidis is our new overlord now

Some joked that the new Arsenal manager, Ivan Gazidis, and his assistant, Unai Emery, were giving their first press conference.

Funny, but perhaps not too far from the truth.

Gazidis looks like he has seized far more power than anyone else at the club and Emery has arrived to work under him, not alongside him.
