Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has poked fun at former Bundesliga rival Robert Lewandowski, by claiming the striker had it easy winning the top scorer award this season.

The Bundesliga came to an end this weekend, unsurprisingly with Bayern Munich as the clear winners once again. Another foregone conclusion was Lewandowski finishing as top scorer in the league. He managed 29 goals this season, 14 above Nils Petersen in second place.

In fact, there was so little competition for the award that Aubameyang, who left the league in January, was only two goals off second place.

The Arsenal man wrote a message of congratulations to his former rival on Instagram, but made sure to let the Polish striker know he had it easy this year:

The messages reads: “Congratulations [for the] third time. An example!!! You finished this season easy but you know why.”

Aubameyang has a point, considering he won the award over Lewandowski last season. The 28-year-old scored 31 goals last campaign, the most in a Bundesliga season since 1973. It’s very possible he would’ve pushed the Bayern Munich man all the way again this year.

Thankfully for Arsenal fans, he’ll now compete for the Premier League Golden Boot instead. There’s a lot more competition in the English league, so he’ll have his work cut out for him. Let’s hope that pushes him to perform at an even higher level.
