Arsenal are set for two announcements this week, with Mikel Arteta reportedly agreeing to become manager and now Jack Wilshere signing a new contract.

The Mirror write that Wilshere has indicated he’s about to sign a new three-year deal with a further 12-month option to stay at Arsenal.

The midfielder apparently had offers from Everton and Wolves, as well as interest from AC Milan and Juventus, but he’s choosing to turn them all down to stay in North London.

Meanwhile, Arteta has an agreement in principle to join Arsenal, according to the report. The only thing left to sort out was his exit from the Etihad, but Manchester City insist they won’t stand in the Spaniard’s way.

After he helped them to a record-breaking Premier League season this year, it would be harsh to hold him back.

Jack Wilshere has split opinion in recent months, after a number of mixed performances. However, with Santi Cazorla seemingly on the way to Villarreal, and Aaron Ramsey still stalling on a new deal, the club needed to tie down at least one of their central midfielders. Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny already have long-term deals, of course.

Hopefully the report is accurate, and we’ll see movement on both fronts this week.
