Arsenal have reportedly reduced their long short-list of people to replace Arsene Wenger to just three managers – Massimiliano Allegri, Patrick Vieira, and Mikel Arteta.

With the club expected to make an announcement before the World Cup starts on 14 June, it won’t be long now until we know for sure who it will be, but I have to say – I like how it’s all looking.

Jeremy Wilson, writing in the Telegraph today, says that Allegri is the leading candidate which is brilliant news as he is the best out there, in terms of managers we could realistically get, for what we both want and need at Arsenal.

It was claimed that he was prepared to join Arsenal last summer only for the opportunity not to arise.

Mikel Arteta is incredibly well regarded at Arsenal while those at Manchester City have nothing but great things to say about the former midfielder. At just 36 he is the most inexperienced of all three on the short shortlist.

Vieira is 41 and has been managing for two years after five years with the Manchester City EDS.

However, despite all this, Wilson claims that Arsenal have not yet got in touch with any managers are they are being respectful of their current employers and waiting until the end of most European leagues before ‘accelerating their process’.

While Arsenal were entertaining us all in true late-Wenger-era fashion on Wednesday night, Allegri was guiding the Old Lady to Coppa Italia success for the fourth season in a row.

They are also six points clear at the top of Serie A with just two games left to play and a superior goal difference of 16 over second-placed Napoli, meaning a fourth league and cup double is just a formality.

The title will be Juve’s sixth in a row.
