According to a report from Sweden, Arsenal are prepared to pay £50m for Emil Forsberg, a player they have been linked with for some time.

While Arsenal spending £50m on a player is no longer news, them only having a transfer budget of £70m, needing to sign a couple of defenders, a goalkeeper and at least one midfielder, means that blowing that sort of wedge on one player seems unlikely.

Unless, of course, there is a big name departure.

There is no doubting Forsberg’s talent.

Now 26, his 17/18 campaign, however, was hardly his best.

Scoring two and assisting only another two in 21 league games, Forsberg came nowhere close to his tally of eight goals and 22 assists the season before.

He was, however, plagued by a number of problems last season, including a worrying case of angina and a pubic problem that kept him out for 63 days.

This story has certainly been building over the past week or so.

At the end of April, Forsberg’s agent hinted at the possibility of his client leaving RB Leipzig. Four weeks later it was claimed that Emery had given Arsenal his approval to move for him before reports the following day claimed talks were opened up with his agent.

The Swedish publication, Expressen, claim that Arsenal will make the offer ‘in the coming days’.
