Arsenal players are reportedly furious over the sacking of Colin Lewin.

When Arsenal told the head of their medical he would no longer be required at the club after 23 years, most people were a little surprised.

It was predictable that, when Arsene Wenger went, a number of long-term coaches would leave with him so when word broke that the likes of Boro Primorac would also be leaving nobody was surprised. Similarly, Gerry Peyton and Tony Colbert.

Lewin, however, seemed to be one that might stick around but according to press reports, his closeness with Wenger has resulted in his sacking.

The Daily Mail write on Wednesday that, “Arsenal players are furious after physio Colin Lewin lost his job on Monday. Lewin, widely recognised as one of the best sporting physios in the country, had been at Arsenal for 23 years.”

Arsenal have reportedly also told the players that Mikel Arteta is ‘90%’ likely to become Arsenal manager with the decision being taken to the board at the end of the week before going to Stan Kroenke for final approval.

David Ornstein reported a few days ago that Arsenal had also been in touch with Patrick Vieira but it seems clear now that Mikel Arteta and his hair will be in charge of Arsenal next season.
