Arsenal have joined Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City in making an offer to 15-year-old Melayro Bogarde ahead of his birthday later this month.

The Feyenoord youngster turns 16 on May 28th, at which point he’ll be eligible to sign his first professional contract.

As a result, The S*n reports that a number of top Premier League clubs are trying to convince him to sign for them instead.

One of those clubs is Arsenal.

Melayro is the nephew of former Ajax, Barcelona and Chelsea defender Winston Bogarde. It wouldn’t be the first time Arsenal signed the nephew of a former player, considering Alex Iwobi’s presence in the squad.

The young Bogarde plays the same position as the 47-year-old one did, centre-back. He has the physical attributes to succeed as a defender, as well as the ability to play to play out from the back. That’s an important trait to have if you’re going to succeed at Arsenal.

We’ll have to wait and see whether the Gunners can fight off the competition for the young player’s signature. They have the advantage of a title winning u23 team with a clear path into the first team, but then again they do already have a lot of young centre-backs.

It’s up to the recruitment team to convince the youngster he’ll still get chances in the next few years.
