Arsenal have now got three names left on their shortlist after Max Allegri ruled out leaving Juventus unless he was sacked.

The Daily Mail write today that Mikel Arteta, Patrick Vieira, and Julian Nagelsmann are the only three men in the running for the job, with Arteta top of that list in terms of the club’s preference despite the fact that he has managed exactly zero minutes of football at the top level.

The Mail also write that Vieira is the ‘fans’ favourite’ for the job, a conclusion they came to after Arsene Wenger’s last match at the Emirates when the crowd sang Vieira’s song.

Arsenal have also continued their behind-the-scenes cull.

We already knew that the likes of Gerry Peyton, Tony Colbert and Boro Primorac were leaving with Wenger but the club have also told Colin Lewin he is no longer required after 23 years of service, much to his surprise.

His closeness to Wenger was cited as the main reason for his sacking.

It’s worth noting that the Mail and Telegraph also report that Freddie Ljungberg is to return to Arsenal as part of the u23 set-up. This was first reported by the BBC’s David Ornstein but Freddie spoke to the Swedish media to say it is not true.
