Caglar Soyuncu’s agent says the defender wants to move to the Premier League this summer, and plans to have the situation cleared up in the next couple of weeks.

In the last day or so, the rumours that Freiburg defender Soyuncu could be on the way to Arsenal have really started to pick up.

The Telegraph wrote on Tuesday that the club are pushing for a deal even though they haven’t announced their new manager yet. They say the Gunners are prepared to agree a deal worth up to £35m for the 21-year-old.

To try and clear things up, Football.London spoke to Soyuncu’s agent, who made it clear that a move to England is definitely the player’s priority.

“The main objective of the player is to play in the Premier League, that I can tell you at the moment,” Mustafa Dogru explained. “We are negotiating with some clubs, but I can’t give the name of the clubs – I’m sorry.

“Next week we will have some meetings and I think in 10 or 15 days his situation will be clear. They (Freiburg) are open to negotiations.”

As for why Arsenal would want to pay such a fee for a player as young as Soyuncu, the agent did a pretty good job of selling his client to the media.

“He is perfect for the Premier League,” Dogru insisted. “We are sure he is going to make a big impact in the first season. He’s very quick, he can use both feet and has excellent technique.

“He was playing also as a defensive midfielder when he was young. He plays almost 85 per cent in the head. Over short distances he is very quick and fast, so with these qualities and specialities, he is unique at the moment actually.”

That all sounds pretty good to me, but we’ll have to see if the Arsenal scouts agree. I’d trust Sven Mislintat to make the right decision, from what we’ve seen of Konstantinos Mavropanos so far. Clearly the head of recruitment knows what a talented defender looks like. It’s just about fighting off any competition and getting a deal done.
