According to Julien Laurens, 57 people applied for Arsene Wenger’s job at Arsenal.

Speaking on the Totally Football Show, the journalist revealed that 57 people applied before Arsenal whittled that down to a long-list of eight and then a final list of three.

Throughout the entire process the media seemed completely in the dark about the club’s interest in Unai Emery who was already on his way to Atlanta to meet with the Kroenkes while the papers were still reporting Mikel Arteta would get the job.

There is, of course, no surprise that Arsenal received so many applications.

It is one of the top jobs in world football and they have shown in the past that they are happy to appoint a manager from left-field.

Emery, however, impressed the selection committee unanimously with his preparation, passion and vision for the future of Arsenal, leaving all others in his wake.
