Arsenal will ‘surely sell’ Aaron Ramsey this summer if he doesn’t sign a new contract, according to Jeremy Wilson of the Telegraph.

Jeremy Wilson points out that Ramsey is out of contract with Arsenal in 2019, and has so far failed to reach any sort of agreement over a new deal. He’ll reportedly wait to find out the new manager, but Wilson claims Arsenal will want to sell if he doesn’t commit, to avoid “the distraction last season of Alexis Sanchez”.

Recent rumours suggest that Ramsey’s agent is pushing him not to accept a new deal. He apparently wants the Welshman to force a move to Barcelona, although there’s no concrete evidence the Catalan club are after him in the first place.

It would be a major disappointment to lose the midfielder after the season he had this year. The Arsenal fans voted him Player of the Season, as well as voting his goal against CSKA Moscow Goal of the Season.

In total, Ramsey had direct involvement in 23 Arsenal goals this season, despite playing in midfield.

It’s hard to know whether the rumoured appointment of Mikel Arteta as manager would help to keep the player or not. The two played together, so they already have a relationship. That could help Arteta to convince him to stay. Alternatively, if Ramsey doesn’t think it’s ambitious enough as an appointment, it might make him want to leave.

If someone else gets the job, it’s even more of a shot in the dark to guess whether the former Cardiff City man will stick around. We’ll have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, the Telegraph claim central midfield is an ‘area of focus’ for head of recruitment Sven Mislintat this summer, whether Ramsey stays or not, since none of the current options are considered a ‘natural holding midfielder’.
