Arsenal are said to be in ‘pole position’ to land Luis Enrique this summer even though Arsene Wenger is most likely going to see out the final year of his contract.

ASSESSED: 7 managers on Arsenal’s shortlist

Arsenal have been linked with a host of managers and, at one time or another, as many as three or four have been ‘favourites’ for a job that isn’t even available yet.

Enrique was supposedly in line to land the Chelsea job when it becomes available in the summer but now they are reportedly closer to landing Max Allegri.

Thomas Tuchel, also linked heavily with Arsenal, seems set for PSG as the managerial roundabout winds up for an epic summer.

Mundo Deportivo claim that “the presence of Raül Sanllehí…would facilitate the possible incorporation of the Spaniard, who is without a team but has no lack of suitors.”

Enrique was also considered by PSG and held a meeting with their president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi in Doha recently. He is also being considered by Naples and Juventus.

Speaking recently, Enrique told Ibon Zugasti, the former Spanish cyclist, he has not yet been tempted by a new job. “It will depend on someone loving me, but it has to be something that really excites me,” he added.

Arsenal, however, are unlikely to appoint a new manager this summer.

Reports, as they stand at present, claim that the club and manager will sit down at the end of the season to discuss what happens in the next 12 months.

Out of respect for what he has done for the club, the Arsenal hierarchy are said to be happy enough to let Wenger see out his final year and will let him make the decision over whether he wants to stay or go.

That, of course, makes planning for life after Wenger a little trickier.
