Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal celebrations are legendary, but there will be few better shots of the Gabonese striker after he scores than this one from the game against Watford.

Aubameyang arrived at Arsenal as a club-record signing and promptly set about smacking in goals whenever he took to the pitch.

Six goals and one assist in just eight matches is phenomenal start for any forward and it’s given the Arsenal faithful plenty of opportunities to see the Auba flip up close and personal.

While photos of him flipping look great, there will be few better shots of him in action than this one that was captured by Eddie Keogh/Reuters and reproduced in this month’s edition of Four Four Two

The caption is rather hilarious, stating, “Not helped by Arsenal’s faltering form and being cup-tied for the Europa League, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang may have endured a slow-burning start to his Gunners career, but the Gabonese forward certainly knows his way around a spectacular celebration.”

The shot was taken after Auba scored in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Troy ‘no cajones’ Deeney’s Watford. It was Aubameyang’s third Arsenal goal (from five games including this one). Hardly a ‘slow-burning start’ by anyone’s standards.

Deeney, meanwhile, in a desperate bit to stay relevant, has claimed that his ‘cajone’ comments helped Arsenal.

Speaking recently, the forward said, “I’m more qualified than most people to talk about Arsenal – I grew up watching Arsenal – back when they had five or six proper players.

“When [Watford] played Arsenal and they lost on that day I thought they didn’t have enough leaders on the pitch. So I said it.

“Look where we were seven years ago and where Arsenal were seven years ago – now they’re competing with Watford. I think my words escalated [the rivalry] a little bit.

“I saw the crowd the week before and there was like ten thousand people, and when they played Watford it was a sell-out, so I said to Maitland-Niles, ‘I’m glad I can bring you out a decent crowd for once.”

The week before Arsenal played Watford at Ashburton Grove, they played Brighton away.

Perhaps Deeney meant the game against Manchester City which did indeed see a low turnout for the home side, but in no universe was it close to ‘ten thousand people’. It was a late-night, midweek kick-off in very cold conditions, just a few days after a bad cup final loss to the same opposition. While turnout at Arsenal has been lower than normal, it’s laughable to think that people turned up at the Grove just to see Troy Deeney.

Vicarage Road only holds 21,000 people so perhaps Troy just gets confused when the numbers get too high.

As for Arsenal ‘now competing with Watford’, Watford are currently 17 points behind Arsenal in the Premier League. They have won three of their last 12 games against Arsenal. Throughout the 80s, Arsenal played Watford 14 times, losing nine of them.

But sure, Troy, Arsenal are competing with Watford now…
