Jan Oblak’s release clause will go up to €100m (£87.1m) if he decides to renew his contract with Atletico Madrid, according to reports in Spain.

Tuesday’s AS claims Oblak is ‘waiting for a call’ from his club to renew his contract and increase his release clause to €100m. Until that happens, they say PSG and Arsenal are lurking, in case it falls through.

According to the Catalan newspaper Sport in February, Raul Sanllehi is trying to bring Oblak to the Emirates.

The Slovenian goalkeeper has tons of experience at the top level, and is very highly rated. He has 24 clean sheets in 39 matches this season, and makes five saves for every goal he concedes in the league.

He also hasn’t made any errors leading directly to goals, which is more than you can say for Arsenal’s number one.

As a result, it could be difficult to lure Oblak away from his current club, particularly if Atletico qualify for the Champions League and Arsenal don’t. It won’t be easy to shake off competition from PSG either.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what the goalkeeper decides to do. If he does decide not to extend, then Arsenal should definitely move fast to have any chance of bringing him to North London.
