Henrikh Mkhitaryan has returned to training with Arsenal ahead of next week’s Europa League semi-final against Atletico Madrid.

Jeorge Bird revealed on Twitter that Mkhitaryan was “back in light training” on Saturday. Arsene Wenger previously stated the Armenian had a chance to be back for Atletico, and this is a good sign that the manager’s prediction is still on track.

However, Bird did add that the medical team still need to assess the playmaker further before making a decision on the upcoming matches.

The 29-year-old spent a few weeks on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury against CSKA Moscow earlier this month. The scoreline was 4-1 at the time, and the team was playing some fantastic football.

In Mkhitaryan’s absence, Arsenal struggled a bit, drawing the second-leg of that quarter-final and losing to Newcastle United. If they want to have the best chance of progressing to the Europa League final, they’ll need him available. The former Manchester United man has two goals and six assists since joining in January.

In other news, Jack Wilshere is also back in training. He was less of a doubt in the first place, since he only picked up a knock. It’s still good to see it’s nothing more serious though. Hopefully the team come through Sunday’s match against West Ham unscathed.
