The Daily Telegraph are today reporting that Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s season could be over as the Armenian waits to find out how long his knee injury will sideline him for.

Piking up the problem on Thursday night after a particularly hefty challenge, Mkhitaryan tried to shake off the injury but asked to be substituted just a few minutes after play restarted.

The initial hope was that it was simply an impact injury from his knee being smashed by the knee of the CSKA player, but Arsene Wenger revealed that Henrikh could well be suffering from ligament damage.

The club and player are still waiting for the results of any scans but the fact is there are only five-and-a-half weeks of the season left, should Arsenal make the Europa League final on 16 May, means he is already in a race against time.

The normal recovery time for an MCL injury is around 4-6 weeks, assuming surgery is not required and the tear is not major.

Mkhitaryan has six assists and two goal in 12 games since he arrived in January.

For comparison, Jack Wilshere has four assists and two goals in 33 games.
