Jose Mourinho is said to be ‘looking into’ the contract situation of young goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, who is out of contract this summer and wanted by Arsenal.

The Daily Star on Sunday, in an EXCLUSIVE, write, “And Mourinho is also looking into the situation with England Under-21s international Dean Henderson, who has had an outstanding season on loan at Shrewsbury.

“Several clubs are eyeing Henderson, 21, who is out of contract in the summer but is now likely to be offered a new contract at Old Trafford.”

Arsenal were first linked with a move for the young keeper back in October and it was reported that they were one of 14 clubs interested in taking the player when his contract expires.

Currently on loan with Shrewsbury Town, the Englishman has played 33 League One games, keeping 13 cleansheets and conceding just 26 goals. Shrewsbury are currently in third place, just four points from the top of the table and 12 points clear of fourth.

The 6ft2 keeper stands just five centimetres taller than David Ospina (yet eight centimetres smaller than Petr Cech) but could be a strong addition to an Arsenal squad that desperately needs young, talented keepers.

That being said, Arsenal have a greater need for a number one this summer and Henderson is far from that at present.

Cech and Ospina are both out of contract next summer and the Colombian has made it known repeatedly that he’s not happy being second choice.

Emi Martinez has been on loan all season, but at 25-years-old, has yet to show anything that would indicate he can be a long-term number one for the club.

David de Gea, Wojciech Szczesny, and Thibaut Courtois were all established number ones by the time they hit their mid-20s while Martinez has made just 13 appearances for Arsenal’s first team.

At Getafe this season, he’s played just six times with just two cleansheets and nine goals conceded.

Hugo Keto, Matt Macey, Ryan Huddart and Deyan Iliev all share game time at youth level at Arsenal but they have a combined total of two appearances for the Arsenal first team between them.

Earlier in the year, the Daily Mail reported that Henderson is realistic about his prospects at United, hence his willingness to leave this summer.
