Huss Fahmy believes that Arsenal can still strike a deal with Jack Wilshere as reports claim he is edging closer to Everton.

Wilshere has been offered a lower basic wage by Arsenal – a drop of £20kpw – but his contract has been loaded with performance-related bonuses.

It is an understandable move from Arsenal who have had to cope with an unfit Wilshere more than a fit and productive one.

Since going public about the deal, Wilshere’s form has been in the toilet and if he was hoping to prove he is worth significantly more than is on offer, he is failing miserably.

Although Arsenal’s comeback against CSKA on Thursday happened more because they went to a back five than anything else, fans couldn’t help but notice that the team because more coherent when Wilshere was replaced by Calum Chambers.

Everton are believed to be confident they can bring Wilshere to Goodison to team up with another part of Arsenal’s British core that rotted before it could achieve anything.

Rumours of an £8m sign-on bonus have been around for a while and with no transfer fee to pay, £8m is cheap for an English midfielder who is still four years from 30.

Arsenal want Wilshere to stay but they are standing firm on their contract offer. He is unlikely to get a better deal at Ashburton Grove and if it’s about the zeros on his wage slip every week, then he will leave.
