FC Porto B will face Arsenal in the final of the Premier League International Cup, after seeing off Newcastle u23s on Thursday night.

It took until the 89th minute for Porto to get the opening goal against Newcastle, but Oleg Reabciuk’s effort ended up being the only goal of the match.

The Portuguese side will now face Arsenal u23s in the final, with the date and location undecided. Most likely, it’ll be at the Emirates Stadium, because all Premier League International Cup matches have to take place in England.

“Congratulations to the players, because they made a tremendous effort,” Porto B coach Antonio Folha said in Friday’s O Jogo. “It has not been easy to bear the load of games that we have had, but they were brilliant. They played a great game and now they will play a final. In a final anything can happen.”

Porto are the current defending champions of the competition, having seen off Sunderland u23s in the final last year.

Arsenal progressed to the final with victory over Villarreal on Tuesday. Tyreece John-Jules opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes, before Charlie Gilmour doubled the lead with a penalty. Then goalkeeper Deyan Iliev made a mistake to allow the Spanish side to pull one back, before a Zech Medley own goal drew the scores level at 2-2.

The match went to penalties, and it ended up being a story of redemption for the pair. Iliev saved a penalty to give Medley the chance to score the winner, which he did.

Hopefully now they can pick up some silverware. For the moment we’ll wait for Arsenal to announce the details of the final.
