Arsenal will reportedly try to sign Daniele Rugani from Juventus in the summer after they were allegedly snubbed in January.

Speaking in February, Rugani’s agent confirmed that Arsenal were indeed interested in his player but he contradicted media reports that Arsenal had made an offer.

“Daniele is doing well, he’s happy. Arsenal? They didn’t make an offer, but they did show their interest. We respect Juventus,” Davide Torchia told Radio Sportiva (via Calciomercato).

This latest rumour claims that the player will seek to move after losing his place in the first team. This is an odd claim to make given Rugani has played 90 minutes in seven of Juventus’ last 9 Serie A games. He started against Sampdoria just four days ago.

Anyway, Arsenal could do with strengthening their defence and Rugani would be an excellent option.

He’s regarded as one of Italy’s brightest talents and could become a leading defender at Arsenal for many years.

Unfortunately, Juventus are not going to let go of such a talent, especially not one that’s been with them since he was a teenager and despite reports that he wants to leave for regular first team action, I don’t buy it for a minute.

Arsenal would likely have to offer a very large fee to convince them to sell. Way beyond anything that would represent inflated market value, let alone regular.

A move looked viable a couple of years ago when the Italian wasn’t playing regularly.

This season, he’s made 21 appearances for Juventus already topping the number he made last year.

Arsenal will have to look elsewhere for a centre-back.
