Arsenal look set to miss out on Barcelona’s Adrià Bernabé who has informed the club that he will not be renewing his contract and is set to join Manchester City according to today’s edition of Sport in Spain.

Arsenal, along with City, were said to be driving interest in the player whose contract expires at the end of next season but the ‘latest jewel of the Barca youth system’ looks destined for Manchester rather than London.

Barcelona attempted to get the young midfielder to sign a new deal but Sport report that neither money nor sporting proposals were enough to convince Bernabé to stay with the Catalans.

Sport also claim that Barcelona were not prepared to break their wage structure to keep the teenager and that Bernabé has ‘settled on City’.

Bernabé is seen as one of the best prospects at the Barcelona youth academy and has been tipped to make it at the very top of the game.

He is 16, turning 17 on 26 May.

Sport also claim that ‘other youth and cadets could follow his example and leave the club’.

If that’s true, you can be sure that Arsenal will be in the mix for whoever wants to leave.
