Arsene Wenger has revealed that Henrikh Mkhitaryan should be back in two weeks despite fears that his season could be over because of his knee injury while Aaron Ramsey picked up a nasty cut.

Mkhitaryan offered to Manchester City

The Armenian picked up a medial knee ligament problem and it was feared that if he did return, it would not be before the final of the Europa League – a game Arsenal have no guarantees of playing in.

But speaking after Arsenal’s 2-2 draw in Moscow on Thursday night, Wenger revealed the player is recovering well and he expects him back in two weeks.

“He has a medial ligament strain, he should be out for two more weeks,” Wenger said. “Do not be too worried. We have a very good medical staff and he is very serious in his rehab.”

Taking Wenger literally, two weeks from today would mean a return for Mkhitaryan in time for the game against his former side, Manchester United, on 29 April.

It’s unlikely that he will be risked in that game, however, given the importance of the match that follows – the semi-final second leg.

A further two week lay-off means Mkhitayran should only miss Newcastle this weekend, West Ham next weekend and the first leg of the Europa League semi-final against opponents we should learn today (Friday).

The normal recovery time for an MCL injury is around 4-6 weeks, assuming surgery is not required and the tear is not major.

Aaron Ramsey, meanwhile, picked up a nasty gash on his shin in the game last night.

At the time, I thought I spotted a cut on his leg while he was getting treatment but the commentators on TV were convinced it was a muscle problem, making me doubt myself.

Given Ramsey’s history with muscular problems in his upper legs, a bad cut on his lower leg is not at all a bad injury for him to pick up.
