In his latest comments, Arsene Wenger has revealed that it is not certain he will be the Arsenal manager next season although he has confirmed that he will go on to manage somewhere else when he finally leaves the club.

Speaking to beIN Sports, Wenger said, “Yes, of course [I want to manage after Arsenal], as long as I have the physical strength and the desire to do it. I know that depends on my physical status and how well I am mentally. It’s a decision I’ll have to make at some stage.

“At the moment I live in the present and I just want to do as well as I can for my club and I don’t worry too much what happens to me.

“You don’t stay 22 years at a club the stature of Arsenal without a total complete commitment and the sacrifice of your life.

“That will not change today until the end of the season, until the end of my contract, if I can I will do that. After I don’t know what I will do.”

Wenger, as you know, has one more year left on his contract at the end of this season.

Most people connected to the club seem to think that they will allow him to make a decision on fulfilling the final year out of respect for what he has done for the club.

If that’s the case, then Wenger will certainly stay. Not only has he made a big deal out of never breaking his contracts, he even says in that statement above that he wants to see out the final year.

The fact that he said ‘If I can’ in regards to seeing out that final year means that the decision is not 100% up to him, however.

It had been thought that Wenger would move upstairs when he finally stopped managing the club but reports a few months ago claimed Arsenal wanted to let him leave before bringing him back at a later date.

That would seem the most likely, although whether it happens this summer or next is still anyone’s guess.
