A well-known bookmaker has paid out on all bets for Arsene Wenger to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

The bookmaker paid out on all bets placed prior to 9:30am on Monday morning, in another sign that Wenger is edging closer to the exit.

The manager is in his 22nd season with the club, but it seems more likely than ever that he’s on the way out now. Arsenal have lost their last four matches in a row, across three different competitions.

Although two of those were against Manchester City, the other two were to Östersunds FK and Brighton & Hove Albion. That makes it eight defeats this year already, and we’re still in early March. It’s getting more and more difficult to see where the next win is coming from.

Also, Josh Kroenke, son of Arsenal owner Stan, is currently in London conducting a review of the club. There could hardly be a worse time to put in so many poor performances consecutively. If the Kroenke family are reviewing Wenger’s position, perhaps the bookies are right to predict a change.

Personally, I don’t think we’ll see anything happen until at least after the Milan tie. This board aren’t known for taking risks, and changing manager ahead of a trip to the San Siro is a big one.

If Arsenal lost that tie, and suffered a defeat to Watford in between, then maybe that would spell the end. After the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 there’s an international break, and the club would have next to nothing left to play for in any competition. We’ll see what happens.
