Valencia are reportedly ready to trigger Geoffrey Kondogbia’s €25m release clause in order to sell him to Arsenal for a profit.

Arsene Wenger is said to be interested in the 25-year-old midfielder who is currently on loan with Valencia from Inter Milan.

In the loan deal there is an option to buy for the La Liga side which means they can sign him for €25m.

However, reports from Spain claim that as soon as Kondogbia’s deal with Valencia becomes permanent he would then have an €80m release clause and they would then seek at least €60m plus bonuses from Arsenal.

The central midfielder, once close to a move to Totttenham, has four goals and two assists in 22 league games this season.

A ball-winning midfielder, Kondogbia also comes with a powerful shot from range and, perhaps more importantly for anyone signing for Arsenal, the ability to concentrate for an entire game.

Seven yellow cards and one red this season point to a problem with his discipline and he is a player who both fouls a lot and gets fouled.

He has been fouled 41 times in La Liga this season, while he has committed 40 himself.

For comparison, Granit Xhaka has only committed five more fouls despite playing 645 minutes more.
