Jack Wilshere has confirmed that he’s no closer to signing a new contract with Arsenal.

After playing another 90 minutes for Arsenal during their 2-0 victory over AC Milan on Thursday, Wilshere revealed that he’s no closer to signing a new contract with the club. In fact, the 26-year-old seemed cagey when quizzed about his future.

“Yeah, but things have changed since [Wenger said the ball was in Wilshere’s court] and all I can tell you is that we are no closer to sorting anything out,” Wilshere told Standard Sport.

Wilshere only has a few months left on his current contract and while Arsene Wenger insists the club are keen to keep the midfielder, Arsenal have reportedly said that he should take a pay cut.

The Standard Sport claim that Wilshere would be earning a basic wage of around £90k-per-week, which is £30k less than he’s receiving at the moment. However, after certain bonuses are triggered, he could earn £120k-per-week anyway.

The deal is allegedly heavily incentivised, which presumably means that Wilshere would get playing bonuses. Considering the England international’s history with injuries, you can completely understand why Arsenal would do this.

It doesn’t seem that Wilshere feels the same way.

According to the Islington Gazette last month, Wilshere is unhappy with taking a pay cut. After seeing Mesut Ozil run down his contract and get rewarded with a massive £300kpw deal, it seems Wilshere wants to try his luck as well.
