‘Senior’ players at Arsenal are reportedly keen to see Thierry Henry take over from Arsene Wenger.

According to the Mirror, a ‘source’ close to the players has revealed to them that just having Henry at the club would ‘set pulses racing’ and the senior players are keen for him to take over from Arsene Wenger.

“It’s a no-brainer,” the ‘source’ allegedly told the outlet. “Just seeing Thierry on the training pitch would set the pulses racing.

“It’s what many of them would like to see. But whether Arsene goes for it is another matter.”

Although I would usually brush this story off as pure fiction, outlets like the Mirror and Telegraph do sometimes act as mouthpieces for the club.

Recently, Henry was on the seven-man shortlist of potential managers that Arsenal are allegedly looking at.

During the pundit’s usual post-match analysis for Sky Sports following the League Cup defeat to Manchester City, the 40-year-old made it very clear that he would quite happily become Arsenal manager if asked.

Is the idea of Henry actually taking over from Wenger being seeded, or should I put my tin foil hat away?

Henry is assistant manager for the Belgium national team and while the Mirror say he’s impressing there, he’s still had no experience as head coach.

Although the players and some fans may find the idea of the former forward taking over from Wenger as somewhat romantic, it might not actually be a good idea.

This story is definitely progressing though…
