Still only 20, Williamson has already amassed more than 70 appearances for Arsenal.

On the verge of becoming a full England international, she is one of the most talented players of this generation.

Speaking to Arsenal.com, Arsenal manager, Joe Montemurro said, “We are delighted that Leah has committed her future with us.

“She brings so much quality to the team, her passionate, hard-working attitude is important both on and off the pitch, and for a young player, she plays with so much knowledge and experience.”

Speaking to Arsenal.com, it was clear Williamson was delighted to sign for the club she supports.

“It feels unbelievable,” she told Arsenal Player. “This is obviously my club, the team that I’ve supported my whole life, and I couldn’t be happier to be here. I definitely wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

“Obviously there’s loads to consider. I’m young, we had a change in manager and things like that, but I couldn’t be happier with the appointment. Joe’s a great guy and he’s taught me a lot already. I can feel myself growing week in, week out, so by the end there’s absolutely no hesitation. This is where I want to be.

“Even putting on the training kit, coming to work every day, being in these facilities – I know how lucky I am, especially to be in my position at my age. To be at a club where I am actually a fan, I’m just blown away all the time.

“I’m very passionate about Arsenal. I’m obviously very passionate about football but to do in an Arsenal shirt, to perform in an Arsenal shirt – I want to give everything I can for the club and the [Continental Cup win] felt like a real turning point. We can really push on from that and I really hope that’s the start of something new.”

A former midfielder, Williamson recently spoke to British Vogue as the face of Nike’s new Air Max 1 range – her first solo campaign for the sportswear giant.

“I think I just want it to be more normal”, Williamson told Vogue. “I want people not to be surprised when I say I’m a professional footballer, especially for younger girls, looking up and realising that it can be a pathway for them if they’re good enough.”

Asked for advice for young footballers, despite being just 20 herself, Leah replied, “Be ready to take criticism, learn and get better – and be confident, you’d be surprised how far that can take you and how many battles are lost just by feeling self-conscious”.

Williamson also tweeted her delighted at signing a new deal with Arsenal:
