Some parts of the media seem surprised by Alexis Sanchez’s problems fitting in at Manchester United as if they never watched him play for Arsenal.

Scoring only one goal in his last eight games – a rebound from a saved penalty – Sanchez came in for criticism following United’s game at the weekend when he gave the ball away 34 times.

Writing in Wednesday’s Daily Express, Richard Tanner, says, “United had claimed a great transfer coup when they snatched Sanchez from under the noses of neighbours City in the January window but on the evidence so far, Pep Guardiola has had a lucky escape.

“The former Arsenal striker has scored only once in eight games – and that was a rebound after his penalty was saved – but the main problem has been his alarmingly sloppy distribution and his predilection to drop too deep to pick up the ball and cramp midfielder Pogba’s style.”

This is something Arsenal fans were complaining about long before he left the club but others only seem to be picking up on it now he’s left for United.

“Sanchez and Pogba are like two kids in the schoolyard – ‘we’re the best players and we’ll go wherever we want’,” Jamie Carragher opined.

In Chile, they are talking about how Alexis has ‘found a nightmare’ at United. ‘Alexis Sanchez does not seem to find his place in Manchester,’ La Tecera wrote, via Sport Witness.

‘He is uncomfortable, lost, without receiving help. On his face there is no outline of joy, and his days in his new squad seem to be a nightmare. His short passes are far from the audacity that led him to be the figure of Arsenal.

‘His bad temper on the pitch sums up his impotence in front of a team that does not know how to find the good game. The one who was called to be the saviour of a squad that must be protagonist because of its history, today is only noted as a crewman on a ship that remains without a clear course.’

With Arsenal, Alexis enjoyed an average of around three key passes per game. With United he is registering just under half that – 1.4 while no other United player has lost the ball as much in one game this season as Alexis did against Palace.
