Arsenal are reportedly still scouting Benfica winger Andrija Zivkovic, but Manchester United also sent representatives to watch the Portuguese club over the weekend.

Benfica faced Feirense over the weekend, and Portuguese outlet O Jogo report that Arsenal scouts watched the game yet again.

In the last month and a half especially, there have been countless reports from the country linking the club to the 21-year-old with a £53m release clause. This time, Manchester United joined them in attending the match.

At the moment Zivkovic is playing a more central attacking midfield role, but he didn’t contribute to either of the goals as Benfica won 2-0.

In all honesty, it wasn’t the most difficult match, as Feirense lost two players to red cards. Nonetheless, the Serbian had a good game, creating a couple of chances for his teammates.

I would’ve thought Arsenal would prefer signing a winger over another attacking midfielder. The club already have midfield players like Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mesut Özil, or Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere.

It’s the wide areas where they’ve lost players without replacing them. Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Serge Gnabry and Alexis Sanchez have all left since Arsenal signed a winger. That’s why the midfielders currently have no choice but to fill in.

We’ll see how the season progresses though. Perhaps the club see Zivkovic as someone who can play both roles. For now, it seems they’re just going to keep watching him.
