Arsenal Women winger, Lisa Evans, has revealed she’s spoken with coach Joe Montemurro about her new position.

Evans is widely recognised as a winger or forward but has recently been playing as a right-back. Not only has the 25-year-old embraced the change, she’s enjoyed it, and has spoken to new Arsenal Women manager Montemurro about it.

“I’ve pretty much played right-back all season which has been a change but it’s been something I’ve talked a lot with the Arsenal head coach about and I’ve really enjoyed it as I’ve been playing every week,” she said, reports the Scottish FA.

“I’d never played there apart from a game with one of the Scotland youth squads a while ago when Pauline Hamill said I’d make a decent right back.

“Now I’m back with Scotland I’ll probably be playing more in my natural position which is great and I’ve loved training this week, focusing on the attack and being close to the goal.”

Whether Evans will stay at right-back going forward remains to be seen but the fact that she’s relishing the opportunity to try her hand in another position is a great sign.

What’s more, she’s adapted well. She’s obviously a very attacking right-back who likes to overlap on the wing. She could do better at times in term of crossing and her final ball but she’s improving quickly when it comes to communication with the rest of the back four and her positioning.

Evans is currently in Pinatar where Shelley Kerr’s Scotland side are preparing for two friendlies against New Zealand. The two clashes are just a warm up for their World Cup qualifiers against Switzerland and Poland in April.

The winger has been capped 66 times for her national team since her first call-up in 2011, so she’s no stranger to mid-season clashes. Although usually Scotland take part in the Cyprus Cup at this time of year.

Evans has only been at Arsenal since last year when she joined from Bayern Munich, so it’s good to see she’s already been pushed outside of her comfort zone. Even more importantly, she’s enjoying it.
