Jack Wilshere is reportedly concerned about his latest injury, fearing it could scupper his chances of deal at a new club should he decide to leave.

He is certainly right to be worried about the injury but Arsenal already have a deal on the table waiting for Wilshere to sign it. This latest setback isn’t going to affect that, but it should alter Jack’s thinking about what he believes he deserves as a flat-rate and why Arsenal are asking him to take a paycut.

The timing of the injury is awful.

Although he’s expected back for the game against Stoke this weekend, it was Jack’s first problem of the season and, keeping him out of England’s two friendlies in which Gareth Southgate wanted to experiment with his lineup, has put his place at the World Cup in jeopardy.

Southgate has said that he will name his squad for the tournament before the 2 June friendly against Nigeria at Wembley. “I’d like to name my squad before the next game because you end up being able to run a performance camp, rather than a selection camp,” the England manager told the media.

“There’s a difference in the feel for everybody. If you name 28, they aren’t sure, but if you name 23 and five on standby, then everyone knows where they sit. Those on standby have a chance, but they come into the camp knowing their role.

“If you have 28 or 30 who think they might have a chance, then there’s a lot of uncertainty and anxiety during the games. For me it’s much better to have the 23 secured and go from there.”

Whether or not Wilshere goes to the World Cup, Everton are said to be still interested in bringing him to Goodison Park to team up with Theo Walcott.

Wilshere has been offered a flat-rate of £90kpw at Arsenal with the deal loaded with bonuses. This represents a drop of £20kpw from the £110kpw he is currently on.

That amount is not out of reach for Everton who currently pay Walcott £110kpw.

Their highest earners are Gylfi Sigurdsson and Wayne Rooney who both earn £150kpw.

Arsenal are still reportedly furious with England for making Wilshere train hard for four days. Jack’s knee problem was picked up in training. He suffers from tendinopathy in the knee and needs to be managed carefully to limit flare-ups such as this latest one.
