Charlton’s caretaker manager, Lee Bowyer, has heaped praise on Stephy Mavididi who made his return to action after a hamstring injury, coming on in the 63rd minute as the Addicks hammered Northampton Town 4-0 on Friday night.

“It’s not a nice sight, seeing that when it’s 80 minutes gone – he’s one of the quickest players in the league,” said Bowyer.

“There was one time we broke and we had Stephy and Sullay (Kaikai) breaking and it was like two greyhounds in a race – look at how quick they are.

“We’re very fortunate, we’ve got these types of players at the club., if we can get them right and get them all fit for the remaining eight games, it’s going to be exciting times.”

Charlton were already three goals to the good when Mavididi was introduced.

Before the game, Bowyer had confirmed that Mavididi would be on the bench.

He was expected to be included in the squad last weekend for their game against Plymouth but was not up to the required fitness levels and missed out on selection.

Before his injury, Mavididi scored two goals and assisted one in just four league games for Charlton. The team won three in four matches as a result.

Mavididi certainly hasn’t had the best luck with his loan spells. Last year with Charlton, he only played five times before injury forced him back to Arsenal.

At Preston North End for the first half of this season, he only started three matches.

Mavididi damaged his hamstring in a 3-2 defeat to Oxford United earlier this season.

Before the scan, Charlton were hopeful that he’d only be out for three weeks.
