Petr Cech has admitted he is frustrated with Arsene Wenger’s preference for rotating his goalkeepers and picking David Ospina for cup games, a sentiment I think we all share to some degree.

ASSESSED: 6 keepers who could replace Petr Cech this summer

Although Cech has not enjoyed the best season at the club, he still stands head and shoulders about David ‘bricks for hands’ Ospina who has been given the role of cup keeper and will most likely be the man in goal should Arsenal make the Europa League final.

Speaking to the media, Cech revealed his frustration with Wenger’s decision to pick the Colombian, noting that he would like to play in those games.

“Well you have to respect the way your manager sets up the team or what he plans for the season,” he told the BBC.

“Obviously I had known prior to the season that David will play the FA Cup games.

“Obviously (it frustrates me), I would love to play the competition as well. But you have to respect the manager’s decisions.

“But I ended up playing the quarter-final and semi-final and I didn’t play the final. So I had some part in the process.

“I think it’s about respecting your colleague and respecting your coach’s decision.

“Obviously you can tell you would want it the other way but the decision’s with the coach.”

Obviously.

Cech is out of contract next summer, as is Ospina, and it’s hard to see how both can still be at the club when next season starts. Ospina has already said he will assess his future, again, this summer.

The Czech stopper, meanwhile, believes he can play until he’s 40, and while Wenger agreed with that sentiment and there was talk of a new deal heading Cech’s way, whispers on that front have gone deathly quiet lately.

For the record, Cech turns 40 in May, 2022.

A new goalkeeper is said to be high on Sven Mislintat’s shopping list this summer and we took a comprehensive look at some realistic options for Arsenal ahead of the window opening.
