Arsenal fans are going crazy for Emile Smith-Rowe’s stunning free-kick against Colchester on Tuesday night.

Smith-Rowe netted a lovely free-kick during the Arsenal u18s’ 5-1 victory over Colchester in the FA Youth Cup quarter-final.

The 17-year-old’s outrageous free-kick from the edge of the area was his first goal of two during the Young Guns’ emphatic victory. This means the attacking midfielder has found the back of the net seven times in 15 appearances for Arsenal’s u18s this term.

Smith-Rowe’s fine form is not just impressing Arsenal fans – they’re calling for Arsene Wenger to start him against AC Milan and claiming the teenager is better than Mesut Ozil. At the moment, at least.

Arsenal youngsters Bukayo Saka, Folarin Balogun and Xavier Amaechi also found the back of the net during their side’s thumping of Colchester.

Fans are saying that their performance was far more convincing that anything the first team have produced this season.

If Arsenal fans are having to rely on their teenagers’ results to lift the entire club because Arsene Wenger’s strongest XI still aren’t turning up, or showing half the heart, we’ve got big problems. Although I probably didn’t need to tell you that.

As it stands, Emile-Rowe hasn’t been submitted for Arsenal’s Europa League squad so unfortunately isn’t eligible to play against Milan.
